Throughout Atlanta we see many homes with hardwood floors. Over time all hardwood floors begin to show their age, whether its fading from sunlight or scratches from children, pets or general foot traffic. When it’s time for to regain that new hardwood floor luster you need to contact Amazing Hardwood Floors to have your hardwood floors refinished. Hardwood floor refinishing falls into four categories
1) Area Finish and Recoating
Shallow scratches that are limited to one area can often be repaired with an area re-coating treatment. Re-coating involves lightly buffing the hardwood floor area and adding a single layer of polyurethane finish to your area.
2) Full Floor Buffing and Recoating
To repair shallow scratches or to renew the original luster of the floor we offer a full floor re-coating treatment. Re-coating involves lightly buffing all of your hardwood floors and adding a single layer of polyurethane finish to your floor.
3) Hardwood Floor Refinishing
To repair damage that goes deeper than the finish, your hardwood floors will need to be sanded and refinished. The sanding process will remove the stain, finish and a thin layer of the wood itself. We offer two different sanding options: Standard dust reduced and Dustless sanding.
4) Dustless Hardwood Floor Refinishing
Using dustless sanding, we don’t need to spend time hanging plastic or protecting sensitive items from wood dust saving time. With our dust containment systems, there’s no airborne dust generated to permeate a home or business. Sensitive electronic equipment is no longer at risk from the harmful dust particles released during the traditional sanding process. Your home or building project stays clean and is kept free of wood dust. Since dust is not released into the air, it will not be able to circulate through the air and heating systems.
There are times when hardwood floors are damaged to such a degree they must be repaired by a professional installer. Amazing Hardwood Floors is an expert at replacing hardwood floors that have been damaged by water, heavy furniture, pet urine, etc..
Repair of Water Damage
Flooring that has been damaged by water leakage must be pulled up and replaced in the section where water damage has occurred. If this is not done and the flooring is just re sanded and re finished, it will most likely warp again in the future.
Signs of water damage are warped or uneven boards, and darkening of the wood. In cases where water damage is especially severe, the subfloor will also have to be replaced. Once the flooring is removed Amazing Hardwood Floors will check the subfloor for moisture using a professional moisture meter.
If you have water leakage, you must first fix the source of the leak, either from plumbing or through a door or window. Once the source of the water is contained it is important to try to dry it as thoroughly as possible. If possible get a dehumidifier which will draw out moisture to prevent damage. At minimum, use a portable fan to keep the air moving over the damaged area.
A typical repair job includes the following;
- Demolition and removal of damaged hardwood floors
- Inspection of existing sub-floor
- Removal and replacement of sub-floor if necessary
- Installation of replacement hardwood floors
- Sanding of all hardwood floors so that adjacent hardwood floors match the new hardwood floors
- Staining of all hardwood floors, old and new
- Two or three coats of polyurethane finish
